The Associates of the Brotherhood of Saint Gregory
The Holy Spirit inspires all of God’s people to vocations within the Body of Christ. As the gifts of the Spirit differ, so do the means by which they come to bear fruit.
Not all are called to the discipline of religious life but there are many who wish to be more closely associated with those who are. The Associates of the Brotherhood of Saint Gregory are such people: men and women at least eighteen years of age who aid the Brotherhood in both temporal and spiritual ways by following their own Associates’ Rule of devotion and service. Associates find that their Rule helps them extend their church activities beyond parochial—and denominational—bounds as they become part of a larger family participating in dialogue and fellowship with other Associates and with brothers of the community. They assist the outreach programs of the community, including The Servant, through prayer and with their financial support.
Christians are obliged to increase in knowledge of God and the mighty acts of salvation, and to participate in God’s emerging kingdom through active ministry. The mission of the church, as defined in the Outline of the Faith, is to bring people closer to God and to each other. This fundamental precept is the basis upon which the Associates’ Rule is built.
If after reading the Associates’ Rule you feel that you are called to commit yourself to this means of carrying out the church’s mission in your own life, fill out and send us the attached application for membership.
The Associates’ Rule
i. An Associate shall pray at least one office daily which shall include: a selection from the Psalter, one or more readings of Scripture, one or more canticles, the Apostles Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, one or more prayers or collects, and a form of intercession (using the current intercession list from The Servant).
ii. An Associate shall increase in knowledge of the Bible and of the worship and history of the church, in order better to serve the Body of Christ.
iii. An Associate shall take part in a public service of worship once in each week and remember the Brotherhood and Associates in prayer.
iv. An Associate shall attend the Brotherhood’s Annual Convocation eucharist when possible.
v. An Associate is encouraged to maintain communication with the Director of Associates and report once a year concerning observance of the Associates’ Rule.
vi. An Associate shall wear the Associates’ Pin when practicable.
vii. An Associate shall assist the Brotherhood regularly, as he or she is able, through prayer and financial support.
